What would individuals, nations, societies be without dreams and illusions?  Today we are witnessing global changes in value systems and public order.  But even now, when material values prevail, the most utopian dreams have real influence on the thoughts and actions of both the individual and societies.

Water, sea and ocean used to be and still are a source of numerous legends, myths and dreams.  This is even more powerful in the case of Armenia, a country that has no access to the sea.

Should we forget about impossible dreams and leave them behind, or should we believe in them?

The 5th Gyumri International Biennial of Contemporary Art (2006) will attempt to materialize the sea-related utopian dreams and illusions through the works of participants-artists.

The 2006 biennial will take place in August 2006, with a trip to Lake Sevan in addition to the exposition and events taking place in Gyumri.  The curators and selection committee will soon post the list of participating artists.
